About BIS

Our story, since 2004

Two decades of dedicated care for people with developmental disabilities and the families who love them, rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis and built one person at a time.

Where we started

A small St. Louis practice built on one belief.

Where we are today

Four programs supporting hundreds of people across Missouri.

Who we are

Rooted in science. Grown by care.

Every person with a developmental disability deserves support that is scientifically rigorous and deeply personal.

Behavior Intervention Services was founded in 2004 with a simple belief: individuals with developmental disabilities deserve support that is both scientifically rigorous and deeply personal.

Two decades later, that belief still guides us. What began as a small St. Louis practice has grown to serve hundreds of individuals across Missouri, but the heart of BIS hasn't changed. Every service we provide is designed around one person at a time.

We combine established autism education principles with current clinical methods, delivering support in homes, schools, residential settings, the community and our Sprout@BIS clinic. Our services are grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), one of the most researched approaches in the field.

Our approach

Grounded in evidence. Delivered with care.

Many teaching strategies are marketed to families looking for help. Most work for a handful of people. Few work for most. We build on what consistently works, and we start with the person.

Evidence-based

Our programs are grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis. It's not the newest theory. It's the one that consistently works.

Person first

Every plan starts with the individual: their goals, their family and their world. We meet people where they are.

Families as partners

Parents, caregivers and guardians are part of the team, so progress carries over into everyday life.

Where we work

Support that meets people where they are

BIS services aren't confined to a clinic. We deliver support in the places our clients actually live, learn, work and grow.

In the home

One-on-one therapy and training in familiar surroundings.

In schools

Coordinated support that follows the student.

In residential settings

Around-the-clock supported living for adults through Thrive@BIS.

In the community

Day programs and community-based skill building through Grow@BIS.

In the clinic

Play-based early intervention ABA at Sprout@BIS.

What we believe

Guided by four values

These aren't words on a wall. They shape every plan we build, every hire we make and every interaction with the families we serve.

Compassion

Every person deserves dignity, patience and understanding. We meet clients where they are, with kindness, always.

Honesty

Transparency with the families we serve, the staff we support and ourselves. We don't oversell or overpromise.

Commitment

Showing up, following through and going the distance for the people in our care. Consistency is care.

High Standards

Evidence-based practice, continuous improvement and never settling for good enough. Excellence is the baseline.

The words we live by

Defy limits. Exceed expectations.

A partnership that matters

Proud to stand with Starling

We collaborate with Starling, an organization dedicated to advocacy and support for people with developmental disabilities. Together, we champion the rights and opportunities of this community and amplify the meaningful change Starling drives every day.
